Bernhard Kühn, MD

Bernhard Kühn, MD, is pediatric cardiologist certified in pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatric Cardiology. He is the director of research in cardiology at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, an investigator at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, an associate director of the Richard King Mellon Foundation Institute for Pediatric Research at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the director of the Pediatric Institute for Heart Regeneration and Therapeutics, and is an associate professor of pediatrics and cell biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Freie Universitȁt Berlin and completed his residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, followed by his clinical fellowship and Post-doctoral Research Fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Kühn joined the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute in 2014. His research interests include inducing cardiomyocyte proliferation and mechanisms of myocardial growth and regeneration with the clinical goal of turning research findings into new therapies for healing the hearts of children and adults. Dr. Kühn has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is a member of American College of Cardiology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Heart Association, and American Society for Clinical Investigation.
